HISTORY SETS ST. AUGUSTINE APART FROM OTHER FLORIDA
RESORTS
Promise of gold and a legendary fountain of Youth first brought Spanish
explorer Ponce de Leon to these shores. Some 400 years later Henry Flagler's
luxurious hotels brought the rich and famous to winter here. Me? I come for the
miles of golden beaches and temperate climate. Plus the splendidly restored
historic area in this the oldest continuously populated city in the United States.
I never tire of St. Augustine. Located on Florida's northeast coast, it doesn't get
as hot as resort destinations to the south. Winter temperatures are usually in the
low 20s, while in summer they rarely top 30. If you run into cool weather locals
will tell you to "wait a minute" because it won't last. Meantime there is a wealth
of exploring to do in town......
