SCOTLAND has such loyal admirers they
return regularly, often bypassing the land to
south. They come to the borders to visit with
Robbie Burns, and to enjoy its thousands of
miles of undeveloped coast; to explore its
nature preserves, and offshore islands where
scenery has a mystical quality not seen
anywhere else. Edinburgh beckons with its Old
and New Towns and a fabled Royal Mile. Forty
two miles (68km) away, Glasgow has been
declared the Cultural Capital of Europe. A
vibrant city these days, noted for its splendid Victorian architecture, its sensational art
collection donated to the city by Sir William Burrell in 1983 has become Scotland's single most-visited attraction.
