Once I invited the orange
cat in for a saucer of
milk, the picture was
complete: plump chintzy
armchair, a bowl of fresh
flowers on the ledge, pot
of tea by my side, and a
tattered paperback I have
tried to finish at
airports on three
continents. Now, with only
the clock's ticking and
puss' heavy breathing to
disturb the silence, I can
concentrate on the
whodunnit for an hour,
maybe longer, depending
when I choose to go for
dinner. This is cottage
life at its best,
comfortably cosy with a
little pampering on the
side.
Mine is one of
several cottage suites in
former stables around a
courtyard, on the brow of
a hill overlooking North
Wales' farmlands. It is
perfect. The kitchen is
equipped for nothing more
strenuous than
snack-making. The decor is
so shiny bright it looks
as if the decorators just
left. Thoughtful touches
include bathroom supplies
beyond the necessities of
modern living ....
TRAVELLER'S TIPS:
Mini-breaks offer the best
value. Travellers arriving
by train will be collected
from Llandudno station by
chauffered car.
