BEAULIEU, STATELY HOME AND AUTO MUSEUM
by Pam Hobbs
For some years
now my
brother-in-law
has urged me
to visit
Beaulieu
(pronounced
Bewley),
acclaimed as
the most
popular
stately home
in all of
England. From
his home in neighbouring Dorset, Norman comes
here at least twice a year, to enjoy the New
Forest setting and spend time with vintage
and antique cars. On his most recent visit he
took me along, so that together we could
reminisce among the cars, troop through the
palace house, enjoy the Abbey cloisters and
all in all have a thoroughly delightful day.
Now I see why he returns so often. There
is far too much to see in a single visit,
what with the Abbey's exhibits, house and
gardens, Disney-style ride through a century
of motoring history, the miniatures and
models, and above all the National Motor
Museum containing a comprehensive collection
of cars and motorcycles........
........ Beaulieu is located in Hampshire's
New Forest 85 miles (135km)from London. It is
open daily, except Christmas day, from 10
a.m. to 6 p.m., Easter to mid-September, and
until 5 p.m. at other times.
